Great Foreign Restaurants

Au Lac Do Brazil

If you are a meat lover Au Lac Do Brazil should be the first restaurant you should visit in Saigon!

Why? Because Au Lac Do Brazil offers a traditional all you-can-eat Brazilian style barbeque, which is a meat lovers culinary dream come true!

And on my last visit I sat down and gorged myself on the full 12 course barbeque meal which set me back about 295,000 dong.

What happened was that when I sat down a waiter gave me a small button which was green on one side and red on the other.

The staff then kept bringing round different cuts of meat on skewers. These meats included barbequed pork, shrimp, chicken, bacon, lamb, cupin, strip loin, ribs, sausage and various combinations thereof.

From these skewers the waiters cut slices off onto my plate. The waiters kept bringing around these different cuts of delicious meats, and cutting slices off onto my plate until I turned the button red side up.

The variety, texture and tenderness of the different meats that were brought to our table were absolutely sumptuous.

And by the time I turned the button red side up I had gorged myself so truly that I felt like I wouldn't need to eat for the rest of the week.

This place is truly a meat lover's paradise....and who needs vegetables anyway?

And if you think the full 12 course meal might be a bit too much for you to handle, there are other smaller options.

For example there is the Carreteriro rice which consists of Brazilian style rice served with meat cubes and vegetables.

Or the Bahia lunch which consists of three cuts of your choice served with rice, feijoada, salad, vegetables.

It makes me want to go there right now just talking about it!

Located in district 3, Au Lac Do is housed in an attractive French villa that is a short taxi ride from downtown Saigon.

On the ground floor is a bamboo and thatch roofed bar where you can sample the Caipirinha, a Brazilian drink made from Cachana rum, lime and sugar.

The alternative is to sit inside with the air conditioning and soak in the color and vibrancy of this little slice of Brazilian culture in Saigon.
