Uniquely Vietnam

The mention of the name Vietnam often conjures are a whole range of exotic and mysterious images for many foreigners.

Often these are images of dense green jungles, or rice fields being ploughed by a conical hat wearing framer driving a water buffalo, or crowded over populated urban jungles where anything can be bought or sold.

As such, here I would like to provide a bit more information about some of these concepts that have come to symbolize Vietnam for many, and provide some background on some of the things that make Vietnam so unique and different.

Ao Dai

Uniquely Vietnam: The national dress of Vietnam is the Áo Dài

The Áo Dài is essentially a figure hugging long tailed top worn over loose fitting trousers.

It is an elegant design that can be seen all around Vietnam, with individuals adding their own flair to the design through their choice of color, pattern and details.

Non La

Uniquely Vietnam: Along with the Áo Dài, the Nón Lá or conical hat has become the unofficial symbol of Vietnam.

Its functionality and distinctive shape have turned it into an icon, and ensured its popularity with both tourists and locals a like.
