Markets - Ho Chi Minh City

I love visiting markets around Saigon and seeing all the commerce that is on display, I love hearing all the noise for people bartering and chatting, and I love all various smells from the food and cosmetic stalls that tend permeate the market.

Saigon has its fair share of markets, and even if you don't want to buy anything, markets are just a great place to visit to get a feel for the local way of life.

So below are some of the more interesting markets around Saigon that are worth a visit, and will allow you to see local commerce at work.

Binh Tay Market - Saigon

Saigon Markets: Binh Tay is the biggest market in all Saigon.

Located in a Chinese style building with a large clock tower in the Cholon area, Binh Tay Market is worth visiting for the building alone, but if you are shopping, you can buy anything you might ever possibly need for your house at Binh Tay Market.

Ben Thanh Market - Saigon

Saigon Markets: Ben Thanh Market is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City.

Located near the tourist area in District 1, the building you can see today was built and opened in 1912 by the French, but the market itself has its origins way back in 17th century.

An Dong Market - Saigon

Saigon Markets: An Dong is a huge four story market that I consider particularly good if you are looking for cheap clothes.

The first two floors are taken up with food, but the next two floors are filled with little shops selling a huge range of jeans, t-shirts and shoes.

An Dong Market is a shoe or clothes shoppers dream come true!

Dam Sinh Market - Saigon

Saigon Markets: Otherwise known as the Army Market, Dan Sinh Market is where you can go to find military surplus and memorabilia related to the Vietnam War.

Dan Sinh Market is also good for electronics and other machinery anyone could ever want.
