Best NightclubsMGM - Going Native!Vietnamese love coffee shops; they love just going to coffee shops and hanging out with friends in the evenings after work or during the weekends. It's what the Vietnamese do when they want to go out and relax, and get away from the daily grind I guess. MGM Cafe - SaigonAs such, Saigon has its fair share of coffee shops, and one of the largest and best coffee shops to see and be seen at in Saigon is MGM. Located in a large four story building on Nguyen Dinh Chieu, there is a coffee shop on the ground floor, and a lounge bar on the second floor. MGM is a popular place and you can bet that on any day of the week, you will find the coffee shop at MGM filled with people enjoying a cuppa while relaxing in the crushed velvet sofas. Don't be fooled though, MGM is more than just a coffee shop, and at night the third and fourth floor of the establishment become a pulsating nightclub. The MGM nightclub generally plays a thumping mixture of techno and house music, and when the place gets into full swing the dance floor becomes a haze of darkness, laser lights and smoke. Reserve your table early though, as MGM is popular with the local trend setters. It attracts a younger more fashion conscious local cliental, cliental that are looking for places to hang out that are as equally stylish and fashionable as they are. MGM Dance Floor - SaigonThe consequence of all this, is that at times the place can be packed with young Vietnamese looking like they have just walked of the set of "The Fast and The Furious, Tokyo Drift". All around you will see young Vietnamese guys walking about with spiky hair and wearing designer jeans; while the girls, not to be outdone, will be dressed in designer dresses and strutting about like they just walked of the catwalk! All this makes MGM a fantastic place to visit to see where the locals go and hang out, and a great place to visit if you want to get away from nightclubs that are aimed at Western cliental. For this reason whenever I visit I am usually one of only a handful of foreign looking faces in the crowd. In other words, it's a great place to meet the locals on their own turf! 172C Nguyen Dinh Chieu, D3 |
